Divisions

Youth Division

The youth category is for entrants under the age of 13.

Novice Division

This division for first time costumers and/or Masquerade entrants, or those who have never won any awards.

Journeyman Division

Journeyman is for those who have won as a Novice in another Masquerade, or who have won at least three costuming awards, or feel their skill level is higher than Novice.

Artisan Division

Artisans are those who have won more than three awards as a Journeyman, or feel their skill level is higher than a Journeyman.

Master Division

This division is for those who have won more than three times in the Artisan division, or have won as a Master at another Masquerade. Professionals from costume-related businesses must compete as a master.

Out of Competition

Store bought or commissioned costumes are allowed to be presented in the Masquerade. However, they will not be judged and will not be eligible for awards. This division is also for those who wish to perform a skit but to not want to be judged.

Workmanship

Workmanship judging is optional, and involves an inspection of the costume for quality and accuracy. You may also specify the item you wish to be judged upon, such as a specific prop or part of the costume. Bringing reference material is highly encouraged!

Time Limit

The time limit is 2 minutes for skits featuring 4 people or less. Groups of 5 or more are allowed up to 3 minutes. You do not have to use up all of your time, and it encouraged that you make your skit as short as possible. Walk-on performances are allowed and also encouraged.

Introductions, Sound, and Music

If you wish for the MC to read an introduction to your entry, please have it clearly printed so it can be read easily. If you want the MC to read additional narration or comments during your performance, make sure you give clear cues. If you provide no information about an introduction or narration, the MC will only read out your entry number and title.

It is strongly preferred that you pre-record your dialogue and submit the CD along with your registration sheet. Microphones will not be available for use.

Music, sound effects, and other such sounds should be recorded on a standard CD. Label CDs with the track number to be played. If your sound will run longer than your presentation, please be specific as to where it will need it to be cut. Do not submit original CDs. Your CD must be handed in along with your registration form. We cannot guarantee the ability to play music through electronic devices.
